Strange Silence from Joseph Prince & the Church Leadership about My Accusation that Prince had Told a Lie (Subtitle: Joseph Prince is an Impenitent Liar & a Brazen Hypocrite) – By Rev George Ong (Dated 11 Dec 2021)

(This article was also sent to Rev Dr Ngoei Foong Nghian, General Secretary, NCCS office, and for the attention of the Executive Committee Members.)

This article is about my accusation I made on 1 December 2021, that Joseph Prince had lied in a sermon on 28 November 2021.

Please click here to refer to a previous article, Joseph Prince Was Caught Lying Publicly” dated 1 December 2021 (if you have missed reading it).

Did Joseph Prince say anything to defend himself?

Interestingly, he probably did. But his defence is no defence at all. Let me explain.

In a weekly and latest sermon aired on YouTube on 8 December 2021 last Wednesday, 3 days ago, Joseph Prince said the following (Note that besides Joseph Prince’s Sunday sermons, he also has his previous sermons uploaded during mid-week on every Wednesday), please click to view excerpts in the 10-second video,

“I hate lying… I really cannot tolerate people that tell lies.”

I believe it is no coincidence that Joseph Prince had chosen this particular previous sermon, which contains the fact that he hates lying, to be uploaded last Wednesday, 3 days ago. Joseph Prince thought that by alluding to the statement that he had made in this previous sermon,

“I hate lying… I really cannot tolerate people that tell lies.”

it would get him off the hook about my accusation that he had lied on 28 November. No, it doesn’t. In fact, he has made things worse.

Joseph Prince has to answer to my specific accusation that he lied when he said that he has never preached that God will make Christians very wealthy in a sermon on 28 November 2021, which he did in 2 sermons previous to 28 November 2021. (Please click here to refer to a previous article, “Joseph Prince Was Caught Lying Publicly” dated 1 December 2021.)

But Prince avoided the issue and aired a video last Wednesday, 3 days ago, that contains a general declaration that he hates lying, instead of clarifying whether he had lied in that specific case I had accused him of. Who is Joseph Prince trying to fool?

There is nothing worse than for a boy who actually lied, instead of admitting that he had lied, goes around telling the world that he didn’t lie because he hates lying and that he cannot tolerate people who tell lies.

This is exactly what Joseph Prince did. When Prince was caught with his pants down and red-handed, instead of admitting that he lied, Prince belted out a general statement that he hates lying and that he cannot tolerate people who tell lies – why?

It is to give the impression that he didn’t lie on 28 November 2021 (which he did) – since he had declared that he hates lying and that he cannot tolerate people who lies. It is also a ploy of Joseph Prince to distract people from the issue that he did lie on that specific occasion in a sermon on 28 November 2021, hoping to get away with it.

For Joseph Prince who was caught lying more than once (as I shall show you in my ensuing arguments), and for him to dare to say that he hates lying, and that he cannot tolerate people who tell lies, is nothing but blatant and shameless hypocrisy.

He is effectively saying that he hates that which he himself did – lying, and that he cannot tolerate himself for doing the same thing – lying. Just imagine, how low can a man get!

If Joseph Prince didn’t really lie, perhaps, because he had made many mistakes in his communication and for teaching false doctrines, then he could have just admitted and apologised for each of those aberrations in public and repent from them. And the matter would be resolved rather easily.

Because Joseph Prince is such a proud man, he would rather be accused of lying and now be called a barefaced and brazen hypocrite than humble himself to admit his mistakes of communication and for teaching false doctrines. Haven’t I told you time and again that Prince’s main weakness is his pride. The same sin of pride, which accounted for the fall of Satan, is a very serious sin, and pride would bring about his downfall.

So far, Joseph Prince has not disputed my accusation that he lied. If Prince didn’t lie on that specific occasion on 28 November 2021, he must come clean and dispute that my accusation against him is false.

My accusation that Prince had lied is a serious matter for 2 reasons. First, he had lied, not in an ordinary situation, but on the dignified pulpit while preaching God’s holy word. Second, Prince is not just an ordinary member of the church, but the Pastor of the biggest church in Singapore and one who has a massive following around the world.

Prince can no longer keep silent about it. If he continues to remain silent about this particular matter, he is simply agreeing with my accusation that he had really lied on 28 November 2021.

By his silence as he didn’t even bother to dispute my accusation, and continued his preaching as usual as if nothing had happened, he was hoping that the matter would just fizzle out uneventfully. By the way, this was how Prince had gotten away with many of his lies on the pulpit as this is not the first time that Asher Chee and I had caught and accused him of lying.

Let me relate just 4 previous incidents Asher and I caught Joseph Prince lying:

The first incident Joseph Prince lied was when he said that if an Old Covenant prophet prophesies comfort, he is a false prophet and that if a New Covenant person prophesies judgement, he, too, is a false prophet.

Note that I have not even included the many other times that I had caught Joseph Prince lying, especially the numerous occasions when Prince openly lied that he had interpreted passages in context, when he had done it out of context.

On these four previous accusations (besides the current one when he lied on 28 November 2021), Prince, as usual, kept silent and didn’t dispute our allegations that he had lied. This proves that Joseph Prince, is indeed an impenitent liar, as he had lied on at least 5 occasions on the pulpit.

Keeping silent seems to be the usual copout that Joseph Prince responds when he is accused of lying.

So far, the National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS), too, have chosen to remain silent. Aren’t they keen to find out the truth whether Prince had indeed lied, as after all, the church that Prince pastors, New Creation Church (NCC), is part of NCCS? If they choose to remain silent, they are sending the message to the world they are ‘okay’ with having a lying Pastor, who lied not just once, but at least on 5 occasions while delivering God’s holy word on the pulpit, to be part of their organisation.

The leadership of NCC is also strangely silent about the matter. One begins to wonder whether Joseph Prince is placed under proper accountability by the NCC authorities. Or is Prince the one who is calling all the shots in NCC (which seems to be the case), that even though Prince was caught lying, publicly, not just once, but at least on 5 occasions on the pulpit, no one from the NCC leadership even dared to raise a whimper?

Is this how Joseph Prince, a Singapore Pastor ought to respond – in silence when he is accused of lying? Is this how the Singapore Church leadership should respond – in silence when a Pastor who is affiliated with (NCCS) or belongs to (NCC) their organisation is caught lying?

In the Straits Times on 29 November 2021, at the People’s Action Party (PAP) Convention, Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong was quoted to have said,

Political leaders and MPs are expected to have personal conduct that is beyond reproach and to be scrupulously truthful in what they say in and out of Parliament.

Prime Minister Lee himself said,

“All our ministers, MPs, and activists know. If someone misbehaves, we will discipline him. If someone misspeaks, he will put it right because he knows that is the right thing to do, and the party will insist on it.”

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, had put on record that PAP will not remain silent if one of her ministers, Members of Parliament or even activists was untruthful or misspeaks, as the party will insist that the erring person should put right what he or she had said or done wrong.

Prime Minister Lee’s response discernibly differs from the way the Singapore Church Leadership responds. Regretfully, it seems that the moral standard of the secular world is indeed higher than that in the Christian Church. It really appears to be so that the Political Leadership in Singapore has a higher standard of accountability for their ministers and MPs than what the Singapore Church Leadership requires of her Pastors.

This is, indeed, a sad and shameful commentary on the state of affairs for the Singapore Church Leadership – that they would respond in silence even though a Pastor, Joseph Prince, who is affiliated with (NCCS) or belongs to (NCC) had told a lie, not just once, but at least on 5 occasions on the pulpit and in public.

The Singapore Church Leadership, by remaining silent to the lies of Joseph Prince, a Pastor, is showing a bad testimony to the unbelieving world, when, ironically, the Church is supposed to set a good moral example for her to follow.

“Silence is the refuge of the cowardly to avoid trouble for speaking the truth.” (George Ong)

“When lies are openly paraded and truth assaulted, remaining silent is morally abhorrent.” (George Ong)

“In the face of the onslaught of lies and falsehoods, silence is the usual vocabulary of the morally weak.” (George Ong)

“Silence is not golden but grotesque especially when heretical lies are openly preached as biblical truths.” (George Ong)

“Silence is the symptom; the lack of moral courage is the cause.” (George Ong)

“When the leadership is silent at the blatant preaching of heresy, the day of spiritual decay has already set in.” (George Ong)
