Joseph Prince’s teaching that New Covenant believers will inherit the material riches of Abraham is false & he lied again – By Rev George Ong (Dated 3 Jan 2023)

For the next 5 weeks, I will be laden with my other commitments; so fewer articles would be featured during this period.

In a previous video, Joseph Prince lied that he never said New Covenant believers are to be very wealthy or very rich; but in this video, Prince now teaches that New Covenant believers are to be very rich.

In other words, Joseph Prince is saying that the lie that he told is now the truth – just imagine – how could a true teacher of God’s word ever get so appallingly low in his morals.

Read on for the details…

(This article was also sent to Rev Dr Ngoei Foong Nghian, General Secretary, National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS) office, and for the attention of the Executive Committee Members.)

In a weekly Sunday sermon aired on YouTube on 30 Oct 2022, Joseph Prince said;

Please click here to view the 1-minute video on what Joseph Prince said:

“Galatians chapter 3. It says if you are Christ’s, are you Christ? Do you belong to Christ? Then you are Abraham’s seed. And all the promises that God gave Abraham to his seed is yours. You have the blessing of Abraham on you.”

“How many want the blessing of Abraham on your life? And the Bible says also, and this might offend a few people. Right, but it is in the Bible. I don’t know how not to offend when I read the Bible. You know some people who don’t believe, right, Christians ought to focus, you know their lives on like trusting God for blessings and all that, but the Bible says Abraham was very rich in cattle, in silver, in gold. You know and the reason it says very rich, not just rich but very rich, and it mentioned cattle, silver and gold. So that we all will know that it’s physical.”

“So, some people would not like that right – that the fact that Abraham was very rich in cattle, silver. And they would not want us to say that, but I feel that I’d be robbing you if I don’t share with you every part of his blessings. It’s not just spiritual. It is all these areas as well.”

“And today, we owned the blessing of Abraham. The Bible says, ‘if you are Christ’s, (you belong to Christ), then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.’” (Gal 3:29)

Joseph Prince teaches that since New Covenant believers are Abraham’s seed or spiritual children, they have inherited not just the spiritual blessings of salvation, but also the financial blessings or material riches of Abraham when he said;

“… but the Bible says Abraham was very rich…

You know and the reason it says very rich, not just rich but very rich…”

“… the fact that Abraham was very rich…”

“And today, we owned the blessing of Abraham.

Four times in the video, Joseph Prince said that Abraham was very rich

and then he concluded that we, as New Covenant believers, will be very rich, because we owned the blessing of Abraham – that he was very rich.

This shows that Joseph Prince is a terrible and an unrepentant serial liar and a serial double-talker.

This is because on a previous occasion, Joseph Prince denied that he ever said or taught that New Covenant believers are to be very wealthy or very rich.

Here is what Joseph Prince said on video, kindly click here to view;

“No, I’ve never preached that. I have never preached that God will make us multi-millionaires, very wealthy; I’ve never said that.”

The truth is that Joseph Prince lied because on another occasion, he did say that believers are to be very rich.

Here is what Joseph Prince said on audio, kindly click here to listen;

“Hello, seed of Abraham, this is your promise. God did not just make Abraham rich; He made Abraham very rich. Very rich is your portion.”

In this video, Joseph Prince then contradicts his first earlier statement that he didn’t say believers are to be very wealthy as he now teaches that believers are to be very rich as Abraham was.

Just imagine the horrendous double-talking and blatant lying that goes on.

How could a true teacher of God’s word ever get so appallingly low in his morals.

Joseph Prince Is Unrepentantly Preaching His Prosperity Gospel Doctrine Again – by Rev George Ong

https://www.revgeorgeong.com/rev-george-ong-joseph-prince-is-unrepentantly-preaching-his-prosperity-gospel-doctrine-again/

In this video, Joseph Prince has again committed the sin of twisting God’s word to support his Prosperity Gospel doctrine.

First, he interpreted Galatians 3:29 and the entire chapter 3 of Galatians out of context (he has once again confirmed himself as a serial-hypocrite).

Second, Prince has read these words ‘very rich’, ‘silver’ and ‘gold’ into the text,

when Galatians 3:29, the entire Galatians chapter 3, and the whole book of Galatians, is totally silent on them.

Although the context of Galatians 3:29 and the entire Galatians chapter 3, did clearly state that we have inherited the spiritual blessings of faith from Abraham,

it did not state that it was the financial blessing or the material riches that we have also inherited at all.

To prove my point, are you aware that for 13 times, the word ‘faith’ was mentioned in Galatians chapter 3?

What about prosperity? – Zero.

Wealth? – Zero.

Riches? – Zero.

Very rich? – Zero.

Silver? – Zero.

Gold? – Zero.

Material Prosperity? – Zero.

Financial blessings? – Zero.

In fact, in the whole Book of Galatians, nothing was mentioned about all the above items at all.

The whole crux of Galatians chapter 3 and the whole Book of Galatians, have nothing to do with financial blessings or material prosperity.

But they have everything to do with the fact that the Galatians were not saved by the works of the law but by faith in Christ.

Paul, who wrote Galatians, was referring to the spiritual blessing of salvation (faith), not the material blessing of riches.

Paul, in Galatians 3:14 said it so well that it is all about the inheritance of spiritual blessings:

Galatians 3:14 NIV

“He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.”

Paul was reminding the Galatians that

“He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, (Gal 3:14a)

So, what is this blessing given to Abraham that has come to us, the Gentiles in Galatians 3:14a?

Is it material blessing to be very rich as Abraham was? No!

Paul is clearly speaking about the spiritual blessing of salvation; of faith in Christ and the receiving of the Spirit in Galatians 3:14b;

“so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit” (Gal 3:14b),

and not the material blessing of riches.

If one looks at the bigger context in Galatians 3:6-14, there is no doubt that it is spiritual blessing, and not material blessing that Paul was referring to:

Galatians 3:6-14 NIV

6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.” 12 The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, it says, “The person who does these things will live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” 14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

The dominant focus of Paul was to indicate that the Gentiles, not just as the Jews, now have the privilege to be saved by faith in Jesus.

The word faith (marked in purple) was repeated 7 times in Galatians 3:6-14.

This means the main issue is about the spiritual blessing of salvation to the Gentiles that comes by faith.

This has nothing to do with inheriting the riches of Abraham, but everything to do with inheriting the faith of Abraham:

Galatians 3:9 NIV

9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

What Galatians 3:9 means is that for New Covenant believers, it is the spiritual inheritance of faith that characterises the blessing of Abraham, not riches at all.

There is nothing in the overall context of Galatians chapter 3, nor in the entire book of Galatians that talks about wealth, but everything in the context of Galatians talks about faith in Christ.

You must remember the key issue is about the Galatians, who insist on adding circumcision to their faith in Christ.

Paul would never allow them to as the gospel is at stake.

His core message to them is faith in Christ is all you need; and just as Abraham was justified by faith and not by works, so are you.

So, it is the spiritual blessing of salvation by faith that was the focus of Paul’s teachings in Galatians, and nothing about the blessing of riches that Joseph Prince is pushing for.

Joseph Prince said;

“And today, we owned the blessing of Abraham. The Bible says ‘if you are Christ’s, (you belong to Christ), then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.’” (Gal 3:29)”

Joseph Prince said that since we are Abraham’s seed in Galatians 3:29, we are heirs according to the promise, and the promise includes riches, silver and gold.

But according to the context, is this promise in Galatians 3:29 really referring to material riches that Joseph Prince teaches?

The answer is given in the preceding verses from Galatians 3:6-14 and 3:22-28, and especially and very specifically, in Galatians 3:14 and 3:22:

Galatians 3:14 NIV

14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Galatians 3:22 NIV

22 But Scripture has locked up everything under the control of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

So, in context, the promise mentioned in Galatians 3:29,

and heirs according to the promise (Gal 3:29),

is clearly the promise of the Spirit which is received by faith in Galatians 3:14,

so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit (Gal 3:14),

and the promise of salvation which is received through faith in Jesus Christ in Galatians 3:22,

so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, (Gal 3:22).

The promise of the Spirit and faith in Jesus, are both spiritual blessings, and they have nothing to do with the promise of riches and prosperity that Joseph Prince is rooting for.

Finally, Paul said;

Galatians 3:7 NIV

7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.

Did Paul say that those who are very rich and possess silver and gold are children of Abraham?

No.

Paul said

that those who have faith are children of Abraham.

This means under the New Covenant, faith in Christ and not riches, is the defining characteristic of being the seed or the children of Abraham.

Thus, Joseph Prince’s teaching that New Covenant believers will inherit the material riches of Abraham is not only false, but a blatant lie.
