Three Heartening Encouragements from 3 like-minded Friends

1. Kwan Fook Seng

On 24 Jan 2024, 3 days ago, after receiving my article,

“Joseph Prince to sue me?

& suppose an ardent fan of his threatens my life?”

Kwan Fook Seng, a friend of mine,

wrote the following heartening encouragement to me

on WhatsApp:

“Hi George,

Thanks for the latest piece.

It is not a piece of ranting,

but a fine defence of what you do and are called to do.

I enjoyed reading it.

It has a drip-drip effect on the ministry of Joseph Prince

that will erode him in due course and in God’s timing.

The National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS)

avoids the confronting role

of contending for the faith as demanded by Jude.

Perhaps, that’s why you are called to the role.

Keep it up brother!”

Kwan Fook Seng

Member of Church Of Our Saviour, Singapore

Attending St Andrew’s Cathedral, Singapore

George Ong’s comments:

I thank Kwan Fook Seng for his permission

to feature what he wrote on this website publicly.

I am grateful to him

for standing with me in my most difficult call,

and for sticking out his neck for me

and for the larger good of the Church.

As most of you are aware,

there are not many people who will do that for anyone.

I must also thank Bishop Kuan Kim Seng

for connecting Kwan Fook Seng to me some time ago.

They were both classmates in RI umpteen years ago.

(don’t misunderstand; they didn’t ask me to write that),

And they are both Anglicans.

2. Ng Keng Tiong

Another brother, Ng Keng Tiong,

wrote the following to me,

also, on WhatsApp on 24 Jan 2024,

with a quote by CS Lewis

and a short note to encourage me:

CS Lewis wrote:

“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end;

if you look for comfort, you will not get either comfort or truth,

wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”

Keng Tiong wrote:

“God has raised His Elijah and Paul

in this land and day,

in the person of George Ong.”

Ng Keng Tiong

Attending The Bible Church, Singapore

George Ong’s comments:

I won’t dare to claim that I am all of Elijah and all of Paul.

But God has certainly deposited

a bit of the courage and mantle in Elijah and Paul

on my life and ministry.

To contend against the Satanic-driven heresies

of Joseph Prince,

we certainly need more of the Elijahs and Pauls

to arise from this land.

3. Eva Kane

George Ong’s comments:

Eva’s write-up is placed in the Appendix

not because it is of less importance,

but because I am using it as a spring board

to surface the importance of the Remnant Theology.

Don’t miss the place and of power of the Remnant

by Martyn Lloyd-Jones and AW Tozer in the Appendix.

Two YouTube Comments posted on my YouTube channel:

1. @dennistay4538 (some editing done)

“Prosperity thinking has led many prisoners

reading Joseph Prince’s book in Changi Prison

… where all looking to prosperity

and believe what Joseph Prince states,

and thus, may cause more criminal cases

because of greed.

This whole bunch is not so educated read his books

without scrutinizing the context,

and thus, make them believe

that God will bless all Christians, His children

to be rich and be wealthy.”

George Ong’s comments:

It has been brought to my attention

that New Creation Church

is involved with some churches in Singapore

in the Prison Ministry.

This should not be the case.

How can the true church

work together with a heretical ‘church’?

In the light of the YouTube comment,

while I’m not sure whether Joseph Prince’s books

are made available in the Prisons,

this, I am sure,

the true church that is involved in this Prison Ministry,

had better scrutinise

what Joseph Prince and New Creation Church

is dishing out to the prisoners.

Is the Prosperity Gospel of Joseph Prince

– that every New Covenant believer

has the covenantal right to be as rich as Abraham

taught to prisoners?

Mind you, Abraham could be considered a billionaire,

or at least a multi-millionaire by today’s standards.

Just imagine such a teaching

that they can be multi-millionaires.

reaching prisoners,

who have been convicted of greed and money issues.

If these prisoners were to be influenced

by Joseph Prince’s Prosperity Gospel

that every New Covenant believer

has the covenantal right to be very rich as Abraham was,

what would become of them is anybody’s guess!

If the worst should ever happen

to some prisoners,

the true church that works

with Joseph Prince’s New Creation Church

in this Prison Ministry,

would be complicit to such gravity

caused by New Creation Church heretical teachings

in the Prosperity Gospel

because of nonchalance and negligence in their duties.

In the ‘better-case’ scenario,

these prisoners may be tempted and even addicted

to buying Toto and 4-D

in order to fulfil their covenant right

to be very rich as Abraham was

that Joseph Prince taught them.

2. @victorwee3319

“Please ask Joseph Prince

to help Ms. Olivia Lum (former CEO of Hyflux)

to have her fortune restored!”

George Ong’s comments:

This YouTube comment was written

in response to one of Joseph Prince’s sermons

which is the key theme for 2024

that he would help his church members

restore their fortune or prosperity that they have lost

(Joseph Prince himself equates fortune to prosperity

in the same sermon.)

Indeed, as reflected in the YouTube comment,

the one who needed the most help

to have her fortune or prosperity restored

is none other than Olivia Lum, the Founder of Hyflux.

And Joseph Prince is most obligated

and ought to take upon the responsibility

to help Olivia Lum

restore her lost fortune and prosperity.

Joseph Prince’s Prosperity Gospel leads you to destruction as Olivia Lum, founder of Hyflux, was charged in court, yesterday – By Rev George Ong (Dated 18 Nov 2022)

Article 1: Joseph Prince’s Just Rest & Your Sin Magically Disappears is Doctrinal Insanity & the Road to Hell – By Rev George Ong

Please click here

to view the entire video.

In a Sunday sermon aired on YouTube

6 days ago, on 21 Jan 2024, Joseph Prince said;

Please click here to view the 40-second video:

“There’s world of difference

when I see myself seated with Christ.

Let’s say I have a problem with anger,

bitterness and whatever.

What do I do?

I don’t try to suppress it.

That’s the worst you can do.

To suppress it is to cause it to explode.

It’s a reverse thing that will happen.

What do I do?

I just rest. I just rest.

Why? It’s finished.

This anger problem is no more.

I rest.

My perspective is that it’s far below my feet.

I’ve died to sin already.

I’m raised with Christ.

I’m seated with Christ (Eph 2:6-7).”

By viewing or reading what Joseph Prince has said or written,

any Christian with a working knowledge of the Bible,

can smell a rat in his teachings.

You would realise how ridiculous and nonsensical

Joseph Prince’s teachings are.

Even though Joseph Prince knows that anger is a sin

as stated by none other than Jesus Himself (Matt 5:21-22)

(unless it’s righteous anger, which isn’t what he is referring to here),

he deliberately and deceptively termed it

as a problem and not a sin.

Joseph Prince said:

“Let’s say I have a problem with anger,

bitterness and whatever.”

That means, in Joseph Prince’s mind,

besides the sin (problem) of anger,

Joseph Prince has other sins (problems) in mind,

such as bitterness

and whatever – meaning, etc, meaning other sins (problems).

We know bitterness is also a sin (Acts 8:23; Rom 3:14; Eph 4:31).

And yet, Joseph Prince deceptively calls it a problem and not a sin.

Again, ‘whatever’ that Joseph Prince has in mind,

refer to other sins (problems).

So, let’s say (let’s say only. I say let’s say only) besides anger,

Joseph Prince committed the sin (problem) of adultery with a woman.

So, going by what he taught in his other sermons and books,

Joseph Prince doesn’t have to confess his sin of adultery with the woman

to be forgiven

as, according to him, all his sins are already forgiven.

Ridiculous, right?

Crazy, right?

Now, have I convinced you that such feel-good theology

will attract many carnal goats to attend New Creation Church

– that they can be adulterers

and yet they can raise their hands to worship God

in Star Vista because all future sins are forgiven.

Hey, no joke, this actually happened.

One Ex New Creation Church member told me that

after his wife had committed adultery,

both she and her lover

raised their hands to worship God every Sunday

at New Creation Church.

Next, going by what Joseph Prince said in the above,

all he needs to do is just rest, just rest.

And lo and behold,

this sin of anger or adultery (problem) will be no more.

This is what Joseph Prince actually said:

“What do I do?

I just rest. I just rest.

Why? It’s finished.

This anger problem is no more.

I rest.”

This is doctrinal insanity

– you mean just rest, and Hey Presto,

Joseph Prince’s sin of adultery with the woman

is no more (hypothetical)

– you mean it just disappeared into thin air!

Can you beat that?

So, now I’m going to ask Joseph Prince point-blank.

Is that what he would really do

after he has committed the sin and act of adultery with a woman (hypothetical)

– just rest, no need to do anything – just rest?

Yes or no, Joseph Prince?

Don’t keep quiet!

You get stuck, right?

Come on, open your mouth!

Yes or no?

If you say ‘no’,

then your doctrine of just rest

and the sin (problem) of anger or bitterness,

or whatever, such as your adultery with a woman

in this particular case (hypothetical),

will go away

is a SCAM.

The Church will demand that you make a public apology

and recant what you taught on 21 Jan 2024

regarding this issue tomorrow, if you are preaching,

or at the next opportunity when you mount the pulpit.

But, Joseph Prince, if you said ‘yes’,

that that’s what you would really do

after you had committed the sin or act (or problem) of adultery

with a woman (hypothetical)

–  you would just rest, you won’t do anything – just rest,

and the sin (or problem) of adultery will just go away.

If that’s what you would do,

then you either must be Siao (mad),

or you are so unbelievably proud

that you would prefer to be Siao (mad)

than humble yourself and admit you have erred.

Furthermore, if you said ‘yes’,

you must bring your wife along to testify

at the next worship service that you are preaching

that she entirely agrees with you

– that’s what you would do

after you had committed adultery with a woman (hypothetical)

– that all you need to do is just rest

and the sin (or problem) of adultery will just go away.

Can you now see that

what Joseph Prince was preaching on 21 Jan 2024, 6 days ago,

on this issue about ‘just rest, and the sin (or problem) will go away’

is plain rubbish that is fit for the dumps?

Joseph Prince, when you said that you just rest

when you have committed the sin of anger,

you are actually suppressing it,

by pretending the sin or problem of anger has been dealt with,

even though you would deny it.

You are searing your own conscience

denying that it’s a sin that you must deal with

by confessing and asking God to forgive you.

Joseph Prince, show me just one passage,

just one passage will do,

and I bet you can’t even find it,

that says that when we have committed the sin of anger,

or bitterness, or adultery with a woman,

all we need to do is just rest,

and the sin (problem) of anger or adultery will be no more.

Show me. Where?

Can’t find, right?

Joseph Prince, did Ephesians 2:6-7, which you alluded to,

Ephesians 2:6-7 NKJV

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus,

ever teach that when you committed the sin of anger or adultery,

you just rest in the fact that (what Joseph Prince said):

“I’m raised with Christ.

I’m seated with Christ (Eph 2:6-7),”

and you don’t have to deal with it by confessing it,

and the sin or problem of anger or adultery

will automatically disappear?

Where? Look at me, don’t look down.

Can’t find, right?

Name me one text in the scriptures that says

because I rest in the finished work of Christ, which you said,

“What do I do?

I just rest. I just rest.

Why? It’s finished.

This anger problem is no more.

I rest,”

the sin or problem of anger or adultery will be dealt with,

and it will magically go away,

even though I didn’t confess it to God

and ask for His forgiveness?

Don’t keep quiet.

Don’t look around and act blur.

You can find any text, right?

Friends, any sin, be it the sin of anger, or adultery, or any other sin;

they will not go away

unless we deal with it.

And if we go by Joseph Prince’s teaching

that we just rest, just rest,

not only will it not go away,

but if it is not dealt with,

it can result in us ending up in hell.

Jesus Himself had warned:

Matthew 5:21-22 NIV

21 “You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ 22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

If Jesus had warned that the sin of unresolved anger

could lead one to hell,

the critical question is

why didn’t Joseph Prince even raise it to warn the Church?

The shocking reason is Joseph Prince, in his other sermons,

states that he doesn’t even believe

that Jesus meant what he said in Matthew 5:21-22

and he even joked about it.

If Joseph Prince dares to disbelieve the words of Jesus

and even joked about Jesus’ intention in Matthew 5:21-22

– that if one doesn’t deal with the sin of anger,

it can lead one to hell,

how can Joseph Prince not be a son of the devil,

who is out to disrupt what Jesus said and came to do?

Article 2: Joseph Prince’s all sins are forgiven are at odds with Jesus’ call to repent from them in Rev 2-3 – By Rev George Ong

In a Sunday sermon aired on YouTube

6 days ago, on 21 Jan 2024, Joseph Prince said;

Please click here to view the 50-second video:

“Who being the brightness of His glory

and the expressed image of His person

and upholding all things by the word of His power,

when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down.” (Heb 1:3).

You see the reason why Jesus sat down,

and why you see Him sitting down today at the Father’s right-hand

is that He dealt with your sins once and for all.

Hallelujah. Or else, He will never sit down.

Sitting down means your work is finished.

He will never sit down if there’s one sin left in your life.

So, all our sins are put there the cross.

When God says I forgive you of all your sins,

it is not, I forgive you today

but tomorrow, fresh sins need fresh forgiveness,

fresh sins need fresh forgiveness.

There are many doctrinal arguments that I can muster

to destroy this rubbish that Joseph Prince teaches

– that once sins are forgiven at the point of salvation (today),

there is no more need to be forgiven of fresh sins.

But I’m going to surface just one argument,

and this one argument alone

is enough to destroy Joseph Prince’s nonsensical doctrine

that there’s no more need to be forgiven of fresh sins,

once Jesus sat down in Hebrews 1:3

after purging our sins,

and once He was crucified for our sins on the cross.

This one argument has to do with what Jesus said

in Revelation chapters 2-3 to 5 of the 7 churches:

Revelation 2:5 NIV (Ephesus)

5 “Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.”

Revelation 2:15-16 NIV (Pergamum)

15 “Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. 16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.”

Revelation 2:22-23 NIV (Thyatira)

22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead…”

Revelation 3:3 NIV (Sardis)

3 “Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.”

Revelation 3:16,19 NIV (Laodicea)

16 “So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” 19 “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”

It is crystal clear that Jesus was commanding these 5 churches to repent.

Repent from what?

Repent from their various sins as stated in the respective passages.

Why repent?

Because of their sins;

and if they don’t, they won’t be forgiven.

It is as simple as that!

If all sins are forgiven as Joseph Prince falsely teaches,

then why would Christ command them to repent?

Joseph Prince, this is logic 101

– and if you can’t even grasp that.

Li Bo Chian Tor Liao Lah (no future for you, already).

If all their sins are already forgiven,

Christ would just have told them gently,

“Yes, I know you have sinned against me.

But no worries, all of those sins,

and every sin you will ever commit in the future

have been forgiven already

when I died on the cross for your sins,

and when I sat down after purging all your sins.

So, just rest and rest and rest,

and all your sins that you are committing now, and in the future

will automatically go away.”

Did Christ tell them this?

Of course not.

On the contrary, Christ commanded them to repent of their sins.

Joseph Prince, let me ask you,

why are you so daring to contradict Jesus

that there are no more fresh sins to be forgiven,

when Jesus Himself commanded the 5 churches

to repent of their sins in Revelation 2-3?

Jesus was not only commanding them to repent of their sins,

but He was also harshly reprimanding and warning them

with severe punishments if they don’t repent of their sins.

Why would Jesus warn them of severe punishments

if they don’t repent,

if they are already forgiven of their sins?

This shows that Joseph Prince is not only heretical in his teachings,

but he is also sorely lacking in simple logic!

Joseph Prince, let me ask you,

when Jesus said those words,

commanding them to repent of their sins,

did Jesus say them

when he was on earth during His 3 years of ministry in the gospels

or when He was already ascended?

Jesus said those words as the ascended Christ.

(Jesus also said those words after the cross, not before it.)

The greatest irony of it all is that

Joseph Prince has been harping in his teaching

that the words of Christ in the gospels are milk,

but the words of the ascended Christ are meat,

as these words were words given to Paul

who then wrote the Pauline epistles.

If that is so, why is Joseph Prince

teaching against the words of the ascended Christ

in Revelation chapters 2-3

that he so highly prized?

How can Joseph Prince,

who teaches against Jesus point-blank

on the doctrine of sin

say at the same time he is preaching the Bible Jesus?

How can Joseph Prince

who teaches against the words of the ascended Christ

say at the same time that he loves Jesus and His words?

Friends, anyone such as Joseph Prince,

who dares to teach against Jesus, who is God Himself,

can never be a true shepherd

but a wolf in sheepskin.

Haven’t I told you that this argument alone,

based on the words of Jesus as the ascended Christ

in Revelation chapters 2-3,

is sufficient to expose Joseph Prince’s heretical teaching

on the doctrine of sin

and him as a heretic?

Joseph Prince,

who dares to ‘delete’ chunks and chucks

of the teachings of Jesus in the gospels as milk

because he had placed them under the Old Covenant,

and his audacity

to go against the teachings of the ascended Christ

in Revelation chapters 2-3,

only proves that he is definitely not a son of God

but a son of the devil.

who is out to destroy the teachings of Christ Jesus.

In a sermon, Dr Chew Weng Chee said;

Please click here to view the 2-minute video:

“So, in verse 3, Paul says,

“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia,

stay there in Ephesus

so that you may command certain men

not to teach false doctrines any longer,

nor to devote themselves

to myths and endless genealogies.

These promote controversies rather than God’s work

– which is by faith.”

What is the modern equivalent

for false doctrines, myths, endless genealogies?

Some of them he gave as examples are so subtle,

there is a very fine line

between what is true and what is not so true.

What is true and what is half-truth.

Hey, these are very subtle.

It can seep in insidiously into your entire belief system

if you are not careful.

And that’s what devil wants to do.

More active now as we await the imminent return of the Lord.

And one of the signs of the imminent return of Jesus Christ

is this increasing deception in the church.

More so today than any other days,

increasing deception of every nature and sort.

Prosperity Gospel is a deception.

The Hyper grace theology,

Antinomianism is a deception.

In other words, it’s okay to sin,

no need to repent one.

Why? Because God is so gracious.

All our sins, past, present and future,

all forgiven already, mah,

why repent?

False doctrine.

And people gravitate to it.

Because it is comforting. It is good.

What is good doesn’t mean it is true.”

Are you aware that all the deceptions

mentioned by Dr Chew Weng Chee:

Half-truth Deception, Prosperity Gospel,

Hyper grace theology, Antinomianism,

and all future sins are forgiven,

are the cornerstones of Joseph Prince’s false grace doctrine?

This is no coincidence.

God is using another well-regarded preacher

in Dr Chew Weng Chee

to expose among others, including Joseph Prince,

as a deceptive false teacher.

I had the privilege of preaching at both

Dr Chew Weng Chee’s SIBKL Church in Kuala Lumpur,

and Dr Philip Lyn’s Skyline SIB Church in Kota Kinabalu.

If you remember,

Dr Philip Lyn was featured in one of my previous articles

regarding the Sermon on the Mount.

I also wish to thank Rev Edmund Chan

for connecting me to both of Dr Philip Lyn and Dr Chew Weng Chee.

(And by the way, 3 of them are very good friends.)

Rev Edmund Chan was also featured in 2 of my previous articles on Discipleship.

Imagine the views of these 3 men of God,

who are solid Bible teachers:

Dr Chew Weng Chee on Half-truth Deception, Prosperity Gospel, Hyper grace, Antinomianism, and all future sins are forgiven;

Dr Philip Lyn on the Sermon on the Mount;

and Rev Edmund Chan on Discipleship,

are all pitted against the grace doctrine of Joseph Prince.

That being so, how can ever you trust this fellow

called Joseph Prince,

who is a Lone Ranger in his grace doctrine.

Everybody, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley,

Martyn Lloyd-Jones, John Stott,

Dr Chew Weng Chee, Dr Philip Lyn, Rev Edmund Chan,

and plenty of Church Fathers and well-regarded Bible teachers,

have all spoken against his false grace doctrine.

Up till today, I am still waiting for Joseph Prince

to quote one church father or Bible teacher

that supports his Grace Doctrine,

for example,

that one should take the Holy Communion

as often as one takes medicine by oneself for healing,

or you can be like God to decide how long you wish to live.

Finally, let’s pay attention to what AW Tozer has written.

In ‘That Incredible Christian, Compiled by Anita M Bailey,’

AW Tozer wrote:

“Many of the doctrinal divisions among the churches

are the result of a blind and stubborn insistence

that truth has but one wing.

Each side holds tenaciously to one text,

refusing grimly to acknowledge the validity of the other.

Sometimes our dogmatic insistence upon

“It is written”

and our refusal to hear

“Again, it is written”

makes heretics of us,

One example of this is the teaching

that crops up now and again

having to do with confession of sin.

It goes like this: Christ died for our sins,

not only for all we have committed

but for all we may yet commit

for the remainder of our lives.

When we accept Christ,

we receive the benefit of everything He did for us

in His dying and rising again.

In Christ all our current sins are forgiven beforehand.

It is therefore unnecessary for us to confess our sins.

In Christ they are already forgiven.

Now, this is completely wrong,

and it is all the more wrong

because it is half right.

It is true that Christ died for all our sins,

but it is not true that because Christ died for all our sins,

we need not confess that we have sinned when we have.

This conclusion does not follow from that premise.

It is written that Christ died for our sins,

and again, it is written that

“if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9).

The meaning of the two is that

since Christ died for our sins

if we confess our sins

they will be forgiven.”

George Ong’s comments:

Are you filled with a sense of wonder

how AW Tozer was able to describe

the half-truth heresy of Joseph Prince

with pinpoint accuracy.

This is because most of what Joseph Prince is teaching isn’t original.

It is the same old Antinomian heresy

that has pervaded the Christian Church

since the time of Martin Luther,

and down through the years during AW Tozer’s time,

and now it has reared its ugly head

in the modern-day Antinomian, Joseph Prince,

in his false grace teaching.

Rev George Ong

I’m thankful to Eva Kane,

another stalwart soldier of Christ,

who dares to stick out her neck for my calling

and for the sake of truth.

Eva Kane wrote:

“By now, about 7 years on,

and especially the last 3 years,

the evidence of Joseph Prince’s false teachings

is overwhelming and irrefutable.

Week after week, George Ong has been providing proofs.

If we weren’t sure then

we must surely be convinced now.

Only those (not just a few but sadly many thousands)

still sitting under the New Creation Church spell

are unable to hear or see

as their hearts are being hardened

by the continuous diet of heresy.

They can no longer differentiate between truth and falsehoods.

Surely, this grieves our Lord Jesus deeply.

He who would leave the 99 and go to the ends of the world to seek

and search out that one lost sheep (Mt 18:10-14, Is 34:11-12),

how much more when He sees an entire flock

heading for destruction on the broad road of false grace.

This is the heart of our Lord, the Good Shepherd.

In like manner, should this not also be the heart

of our leaders as good shepherds,

to rescue these sheep in danger of losing their souls?

One man heeded the call of the Good Shepherd.

George Ong has been shouting from the rooftop incessantly

calling the sheep out from New Creation Church.

His shepherd’s work has reaped results

and has awakened many lost souls.

Praise God that recently,

a few other more shepherds have joined in the fight.

How much more compelling it would be

if the National Council of Churches of Singapore, NCCS,

for the love of the sheep,

would also lend its voice to this rescue mission.

When an authoritative voice like the NCCS sounds the alarm,

I am sure a multitude of sheep would wake up.

However, for reasons best known to them,

NCCS has chosen to remain silent.

It cannot be that our theological heavyweights

are unable to see Joseph Prince’s obvious heresies.

And it does not take that much courage either to contend for the Truth.

NCCS’s non-committal stand is truly baffling.

For now, this arduous work

is left to George Ong and the remnant others

We thank God for them.

But you would be surprised

what God can do through the remnant few.”

Eva Kane

Attending a Methodist Church in Singapore

George Ong’s comments:

I have always believed

in the place and the power of the remnant

for the many years of my Christian life.

This is not to say that the minority is always right.

But it is also true that the majority is often wrong.

Friends, whether you believe me or not,

I am speaking through my many years of experience

in my life and ministry.

I have concrete evidence from my life and ministry

that this is often the case.

Remember, it was the Remnant Martin Luther,

who contended alone against the whole Church,

the majority, who was wrong doctrinally.

It was the Remnant Jeremiah,

who prophesied alone against the whole nation,

the majority, who had indulged in idolatry.

It was the Remnant Noah,

who stood alone against the whole world,

the majority, who sinned to a state that is beyond redemption.

Well, one man, the Remnant Noah was right;

the whole world, the overwhelming majority was wrong.

One man, the Remnant Noah,

saved his whole family of eight;

the whole world, the sinful majority

perished in the judgement of the flood.

Along with the same voice,

let me now pass you over to

Martyn Lloyd-Jones and AW Tozer,

whose writings on the place and power of the Remnant

will encourage and inspire you.

And when you happen to find yourselves to be in the remnant,

don’t fret, don’t fear,

but lift up your eyes with confidence and hope

because God often specialises

in using the Remnant for His purposes and His glory.

In ‘Exposition of Romans Chapter 11, To God’s Glory,’

Martyn Lloyd-Jones said:

“Then, let us note a warning here

which is much-needed at the present time.

It is,

‘Do not be carried away by numbers.

Do not follow the crowd’.

In the time of Elijah,

almost everybody was on the wrong side;

the king and queen and all the prophets.

(No one knew about the seven thousand).

But Elijah did not say,

Well, I must be wrong;

I cannot alone be right…

… I say, thank God for this story of Elijah!

It does not matter if the whole world says the other thing;

do not follow the crowd,

do not assume that the numbers are always right.

… You do not judge these matters by numbers;

it is truth that matters.

I stand out with a man like Elijah,

Martin Luther standing alone

– standing against fifteen centuries

of Roman Catholic tradition and teaching,

all the great doctors of the church arrayed against him.

It does not matter,

he knows what is true so he says,

‘Here I stand, I can do no other; so help me God’.

… Don’t worry, my friends;

don’t think in terms of numbers.

It is truth that matters

– not numbers, not popularity,

not any one of these things.

There is a great warning to us here.”

In ‘Exposition of Romans Chapter 9, God’s Sovereign Purpose,’

Martyn Lloyd-Jones said:

“The fifth deduction is the question of the significance of numbers

in connection with the church and her function.

And the answer is that numbers do not matter at all.

God preserves a remnant,

He preserves a seed.

… We must not be ashamed of being a remnant, weak and small;

this is God’s way.

In a sense, it can even become a privilege.

We must cease to think in terms of numbers,

we must think in terms of the purpose of God

and the purity of the witness and the testimony.

God will preserve this seed.

He will carry it on in spite of everything,

thank God, if we belong to the faithful remnant.”

In ‘An exposition of Ephesians 6:10-13, The Christian Warfare,’

Martyn Lloyd-Jones said:

“But this argument is not only wrong,

it is dangerously wrong,

if you relate it to the realm of the Christian faith.

The whole Bible testifies against it.

The glories of Church history protest loudly against it.

The Christian position is entirely different.

Here, you do not begin by counting heads,

you are not concerned primarily about numbers and masses.

You do not think in that way.

You are in an entirely different realm.

Here, the one thing you think of primarily

is your relationship to God!

Over against the modern faith in numbers

we must say with an American of the last century,

William Lloyd Garrison, ‘One with God is a majority’.

… It is the power of God that matters.

And the moment you realize that,

the question of numbers, as regards men,

is comparatively irrelevant and unimportant.

Nothing matters in the spiritual realm except truth,

the truth given by the Holy Spirit,

the truth that can be honoured by the Holy Spirit.

Is there anything more glorious

in the whole of the Old Testament

than the way in which this great principle stands out?

God often used individual men,

or but two or three, against hordes and masses.

Is there anything more exhilarating

than the doctrine of the remnant?

While the majority had gone wrong,

the ones and the twos saw the truth.

Take a man like Jeremiah.

All the false prophets were against him.

There is a man who had to stand alone.

Poor Jeremiah – how he hated it and disliked it!

He did not like being unpopular,

he did not like standing on his own,

and being ridiculed and laughed at, and spat upon,

as it were; but he had the truth of God,

and so, he endured it all.

He decided at times to say nothing,

but the word was like fire in his bones,

and he had to go on speaking it.

Obloquy and abuse were heaped upon him,

but it did not matter;

he was God’s spokesman and God’s representative.

Similarly, Moses had to stand alone

when he came down from the Mount

where he had met God.

To stand in isolation from one’s fellows, but with God,

is the great doctrine of the Old Testament in many ways.

And it is emphasized in the New Testament also.

… The great concern of the New Testament Epistles

is not about the size of the Church,

it is about the purity of the Church.”

In ‘An Exposition of Ephesians 4:1-16, Christian Unity,’

Martyn Lloyd-Jones said:

“To believe that numbers,

or the size of the Church,

is what counts is a contradiction

of the whole teaching of the Bible.

In the Old Testament, we find one doctrine

which seems to run through from beginning to end

– the doctrine of the remnant.

God works repeatedly through a remnant,

sometimes through one man.

How worldly we have become in our thinking,

how mechanical!

The Lord Jesus Christ left the Church

in the hands of twelve men,

a mere handful of nobodies.

We seem to have forgotten that!

And as we read the history of the Church

since the end of the New Testament canon

we find precisely the same thing.

One thinks of ‘Athanasius contra mundum’

– how that one man stood against the whole world

for vital doctrine and prevailed!

The explanation is that the power of Christ was in him;

he was linked and joined to the Head.

Martin Luther also stood alone

after all the centuries of deadness, and of Catholicism,

and in spite of all the material power of the Roman Church

he prevailed because the power of the Head was in him.”

In ‘The Next Chapter After The Last, Complied and Edited by Harry Verploegh,’

AW Tozer wrote:

“History shows clearly enough that true spirituality

has never at any time been the possession of the masses.

In any given period since the fall of the human race,

only a few persons

ever discerned the right way or walked in God’s law.

God’s truth has never been popular.

Wherever Christianity becomes popular,

it is not on its way to die – it has already died.

Popular Judaism slew the prophets and crucified Christ.

Popular Christianity killed the Reformers,

jailed the Quakers

and drove John Wesley into the streets.

When it comes to religion,

the crowds are always wrong.

At any time, there are a few who see,

and the rest are blinded.

To stand by the truth of God

against the current religious vogue

is always unpopular

and may be downright dangerous.

The historic Church,

while she was a hated minority group,

had a moral power that made her terrible to evil

and invincible before her foes.

When the Roman masses, without change of heart,

were made Christian by baptism,

Christianity gained popularity

and lost her spiritual glow.

From there, she went on to adopt the ways of Rome

and to follow her pagan religions.

The fish caught the fisherman,

and what started out to be the conversion of Rome

became finally the conversion of the church.

From that ignominious captivity,

the church has never been fully delivered.

Christianity’s scramble for popularity today

is an unconscious acknowledgment of spiritual decline.

… For every Elijah,

there have always been

400 hundred popular prophets of Baal.

For every Noah,

there is always a vast multitude

who will not believe it is going to rain.

… He may be compelled sometimes to travel alone

or at least, to go with the ostracized few.

To belong to the despised minority

may be the price he must pay for power.”
