what three of these great men of God had written,
which have special relevance
to Joseph Prince’s no-law gospel.
Charles Spurgeon wrote:
“He who preaches the gospel
without preaching the law
may hold all the results of it in his hand,
and there will be little for him to hold.”
Charles Finney wrote:
“Evermore the law must prepare the way
for the gospel.
To overlook this in instructing souls
is almost certain to result in false hope,
the introduction of a false standard of Christian experience,
and to fill the Church with false converts…”
Walter Chantry wrote:
“Satan has effectively used a very clever device
to silence the law,
which is needed as an instrument
to bring perishing men to Christ.”
Joseph Prince may boast
about the many souls he has saved
through his ‘all-grace-no-law’ preaching of the gospel.
He may boast about the explosive growth of his church,
now being the biggest in Singapore.
But according to what
Charles Spurgeon and Charles Finney have said,
it could all be an empty boast and amounting to nothing.
Joseph Prince’s way of easy-believism
and a no-law gospel
may have brought in the numbers.
But the crucial question to ask is,
how many of these large numbers of converts
or attendees at his church
are really sheep or are they actually goats?
What is worse is that
according to what Walter Chantry has said
that those who silence the law
in the preaching of the gospel,
as what Joseph Prince is passionately doing
is to be an accomplice of the devil.

In the sermon 3 days ago on 4 Aug 2024, Joseph Prince said;
“In fact, the law,
the strength of sin is the law.”
In a teaching session, George Ong said;
In ‘Grace Revolution’, Joseph Prince wrote,
“Some ministers think that when there is sin,
they need to preach stronger, harder, and harsher
sermons on the law of Moses…
But the Word of God tells us that
“the strength of sin is the law” (1 Cor 15:56).
Preaching more of the law
is like adding more fuel to the fire.”
This guy (Joseph Prince) is not honest.
Because “the strength of sin is the law”
is only part of the verse.
He should have put 15:56b.
He gives you the impression
“the strength of sin is the law”
is the full verse
of 1 Corinthians 15:56.
It’s not the full verse.
Afterwards, you begin to see,
there is the first half “a”
which destroys and exposes his false teaching.
He’s always like that,
uses half, the other half, hide.
Now let’s look at NKJV.
He said, “the strength of sin is the law”.
Remember I told you this is not the whole verse.
But he dared not quote you the first part.
Can you read the first part?
“The sting of death is sin.”
“The sting of death is sin.”
So, what causes death?
What causes death?
Sin.
It’s not the law.
You see, he uses the second part of the verse
to deceive us,
“the strength of sin is the law”.
But he never quotes the first part,
“The sting of death is sin.”
In the context of 1 Corinthians 15:50-57,
the thrust of the passage
is about the hope of our resurrection
that will finally defeat death which is caused by sin.
So, just now the passage read to you, right.
What is the context of the passage?
The context of the passage is about death.
What causes death?
Sin.
That’s why we need to be resurrected.
So, the problem of death is sin.
And when we are resurrected, the problem is solved.
The law is only incidental.
The law is only incidental.
But here he (Joseph Prince) makes the law the big thing.
Keep on harping on this half-verse
– that the law causes us to sin even more.
Okay, that’s what he’s doing.
So, you know already, right,
the real cause of death is sin.”
In a teaching session, George Ong said;
to view the 1-minute-30-second video:
“Give you an illustration.
This maid is very lazy.
She didn’t clean up the house.
So, the boss went away for a while.
And because the maid was lazy, didn’t clean up the house,
all the cockroaches will come crawling between the cracks,
hiding between the cracks of the wall
and behind the cupboards.
It’s not too apparent to the eyes.
So, when the boss returned home,
he switched on the torchlight.
To the shock of his life,
he discovered so many cockroaches
hiding between the cracks and behind the walls.
Now, tell me who was the cause of these cockroaches?
Is it the torchlight?
No!
Who was the cause?
It’s the laziness of the maid.
Right, that’s the cause.
It’s not the torchlight.
You see, but Joseph Prince blames it on the torchlight.
The torchlight of the law only reveals the immensities
and extremities of the cockroaches.
Same thing when the law shines into our lives,
of course, it reveals all the dirt.
It does not cause the dirt.
Joseph Prince says the law causes the dirt
is the same as saying the torchlight of the man
causes the genesis of the cockroaches.
It’s like an x-ray machine.
X-ray machine does not cause the cancer.
Somebody got stomach problem, right.
So, he decides to go for x-ray, Wah, he was horrified;
the doctor was horrified, so much cancer germs inside.
Did the x-ray cause the cancer germs?
No.
The x-ray only reveals
all the germs that is inside.
You must know this difference.
But he turns it around
and say it’s the law that causes you to sin.
It’s the law that revives sin in your lives.”
In ‘Destined To Reign’, Joseph Prince wrote:
“However, the Bible is very clear
that the “strength of sin is the law” (1 Cor 15:56).
It is not grace
that gives people the strength to sin.
It is the law!
The more you are under the law,
the more sin is strengthened!
… Unfortunately, there are well-meaning people today
who are preaching a completely different message…
So when they see sin, they preach more of the law!
That, my friend, is like adding wood to fire
because the strength of sin is the law. (1 Cor 15:56)
Sin is strengthened when more law is preached!”
What Joseph Prince is saying is that the law is responsible
for causing or bringing about more sin in the people.
His argument is that the more law is preached,
the more sin is caused.
So, the problem is with the law,
and it must be done away with.
Joseph Prince is no different from saying
that if a man has committed murder,
it is the law against murder
that is responsible for causing him to murder.
Joseph Prince is also implying that since the murder law
is the culprit for causing him to murder;
so, we need to do away with the murder laws,
so that no one would be convicted of murder (even if he murders).
What sickening logic is that?
The simple logic is that the murder law is to convict people,
and is not responsible for the crime of murder
committed by the people.
In the same way, the function of the law is to reveal sin,
and is not responsible for the sins
that are committed by the people.
But Joseph Prince is teaching
that the law is responsible for the propensity to sin in people.
He is in effect accusing God of giving us the law
to cause us to sin more.
Joseph Prince is no different from saying
that if a man has committed murder,
it is the law against murder that is responsible
for causing him to murder
when the murderer himself
who committed the sin of murder
is to be blamed.
When Joseph Prince quoted,
“the strength of sin is the law” in 1 Corinthians 15:56,
he is clearly saying that the more we preach law,
the more one would sin.
He is no different from telling us
that the more I tell somebody
not to contravene the law against adultery,
the more he will;
and perhaps,
the more I refrain from mentioning
about the law against adultery,
the more he won’t.
What silly logic is that?
He is making connections that aren’t there to start with.
While the function of the law
is to reveal and bring sin into the open,
hence giving sin strength:
“the strength of sin is the law.” (1 Cor 15:56),
the law is not responsible for sin in the people.
Joseph Prince falsely teaches it this way
– that because “the strength of sin is the law” (1 Cor 15:56),
we must have nothing to do with the law,
as all it does is increase the strength of sin in our lives
– placing the blame squarely on the law.
But the right perspective to 1 Corinthians 15:56
is that the blame must rest squarely on the sin
which is the cause,
not on the law which merely provides the occasion
for the cause.
If a mum who had to cane a child to discipline him
has brought forth a greater rebellion in the child,
is the discipline of the mum
to blame for the rebellion in the child?
The discipline of the mother in caning the child
may have provided the occasion
for the display of the child’s rebellion.
But it is the rebellion in the child that is to be blamed
– as such a rebellion is all the while latent in the child,
only waiting for the right stimulus, mum’s caning,
to bring it forth to action.
In the same way, the phrase in 1 Corinthians 15:56,
“the strength of sin is the law,”
does not lay blame on the law
which merely provides the occasion for the display of the sin,
but it is the sin that has to bear the full responsibility.
The more the law is preached,
the more sin which has remained hidden
will be brought forth to the surface.
The law thus serves a critical function of uncovering sin,
not causing us to sin more.
Take for instance a person
who had been suffering from stomach cancer
for the last one year,
which he isn’t aware of.
One day, because of stomach discomfort,
he decided to go for an X-ray.
After the X-ray, the doctor revealed to him
that there was cancer in his stomach.
Was the cancer which has been afflicting the person present
before the X-ray was performed on him?
Certainly!
The X-ray didn’t cause the cancer
but it only revealed and exposed the cancer
that has been there in the person all along.
In fact, the X-ray revealed the full and shocking extent
of the cancer in the person that was unknown to him before.
The X-ray didn’t hurt the person but, on the contrary,
serves a ‘redemptive’ role,
as with the knowledge of the cancer
by what the X-ray reveals
and the early treatment he would immediately seek,
could save him from impending death.
On the other hand,
without the X-ray to reveal the cancer,
the person would go on living life,
thinking that everything is alright,
and with time, death would surely befall him.
In the same way,
the X-ray of God’s laws into our moral life
is not responsible for our sins
and for causing us to sin even more.
It only revealed and uncovered the vileness of sins
that have been afflicting us all along
so that we can be moved
to repent of our transgressions
and be reconciled to God.
Joseph Prince, by teaching that the law
is responsible for increasing the strength of sin in our lives,
is no different from making the nonsensical conclusion
that the X-ray is responsible for the cancer in a person’s life
and for making it worse.
Let’s take a look at the bigger context of 1 Corinthians 15:50-57,
in which the verse in question, 1 Corinthians 15:56, is located.
1 Corinthians 15:50-57 NIV
50 “I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed – 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
In the context of 1 Corinthians 15:50-57,
the thrust of the passage is about the hope of our resurrection
that will finally defeat death which is caused by sin:
“The sting of death is sin…”
So, the primary issue in the passage
is about sin causing our death,
but one day that death would be overcome
by our glorious resurrection.
The law that is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:56b,
“the strength of sin is the law,”
is only incidental,
and yet, Joseph Prince has deceptively made it the focus.
Why?
– For the sake of advancing his false grace theology
by giving the law a bad name,
so we can do away with it.
Joseph Prince keeps harping on the line
in his books and teaching videos and audios
that it is the law that kills
or it is the law that causes death.
But we have to ask Joseph Prince,
what does 1 Corinthians 15:56a say?
1 Corinthians 15:56a says,
“the sting of death is sin….”
Does the law kill or does sin kill?
It is not the law
but it is sin that kills and causes death:
“The sting of death is sin…”
And Joseph Prince also keeps deceiving people
that it is the law that strengthens the sins in our lives
when he wrote:
“because the strength of sin is the law. (1 Cor 15:56b).
Sin is strengthened when more law is preached!”
But when Paul says,
“…the strength of sin is the law,” (1 Cor 15:56b NKJV),
what is meant is that the law exposes sin
for all its vileness and evil.
The law makes sin to be sin
but the law doesn’t cause sin or strengthen the sins
that are in our lives.
Without the law,
is sin still sin?
Of course.
But the law makes sin even more recognisable and vile.
Joseph Prince has twisted 1 Corinthians 15:56b
to mean that the law is responsible for our sins
and has caused us to sin even more.
Although the law may give sin the strength,
finally, the one who is responsible for sins
is not the law
but the person himself.
The strength of sin is the law
in that, sin’s strength, its evil nature,
and all the dreadful manifestations of it,
and terrible consequences upon it
are uncovered and made known by the law.
The law gives sin its strength in the sense that
because of the corruption of sinful human nature,
we are irritated and provoked by the law to sin more,
even though the law had prohibited it.
Is the law sinful?
The law of God is never sinful,
nor does it encourage us to sin.
In fact, it forbids us to sin
under the threat of the severest penalty.
This fault is not with the law,
but the fault is chiefly due to the vile human nature
that the more something is forbidden,
the more we desire it.
The more we are told an act is unlawful,
the more we deliberately break it.
The more we are warned against contravening a regulation,
the more we flout it.
Hence the law, so to speak,
gives sin the strength to enslave us.
But is the law responsible for our enslavement to sin?
No way.
Sin is always there.
The enslavement to sin is always latent.
The function of the law
is to bring forth what is already present in us
– the sinful nature.
Without the law,
we would not have known we were sinners.
That is why Paul wrote:
“I would not have known sin except through the law” in Romans 7:7.
Let’s take the example of a very clumsy maid.
As long as she doesn’t do anything
and is relaxing in the home,
no one knows how clumsy she is.
But once she is asked by the boss
to wash the dishes in the kitchen,
it is only a matter of time before her clumsiness begins to show.
It is only a matter of time
before she bumps into something and falls over
or drops a dish on the floor
while washing them.
Was the maid clumsy
before her boss asked her to help in the kitchen?
You bet.
Was the boss who instructed her to wash the dishes
in the kitchen
responsible for causing her to be clumsy?
Far from it.
All the while, her clumsiness is in her
but it wasn’t manifested
until her boss asked her to perform some domestic tasks.
In the same way,
just as the maid was already clumsy
before her boss asked her to help in the kitchen,
was sin and all its vileness already present in human nature
before the law was given?
Definitely!
So, was the law responsible for the vileness of sin?
No way!
What the law does
is to uncover all the evil and atrocities of the sinful nature
– just as it was the act of the boss
who asked the maid to help in the kitchen
that uncovered her clumsiness.
But the law is never responsible for our sins
or the vileness of them or our consequent death
– just as the boss cannot be held responsible
for causing the clumsiness in the maid.
The sinful nature in man
is ultimately the cause of his own death.
The purpose and goal of sin
are to cause us maximum damage and finally death
(“The sting of death is sin…”)
as sin will result in death.
Because the law, to perform its righteous function
has to pronounce death on sin,
it sort of aided sin in this purpose
– so in that sense, the law gives strength to sin.
But the law is only the incidental
and the secondary cause of death
while sin is the root and primary cause.
The law to be true to its rightful role
must sentence sinful lawbreakers,
such as murderers to death,
and in that sense, it gives strength to sin
as its chief and evil purpose is to bring death to us.
But the law is no way responsible for our death.
Sin, being the root and the ultimate cause of our death
must bear the chief responsibility.
But while the law cannot remove the sentence of death
(which is not its role anyway),
the grace of God
through the death and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus
did, 1 Corinthians 15:57.
Joseph Prince never even bothered
to explain what I have done carefully.
Why?
To give you the distorted and false impression
that the law is the bad guy
that causes and worsens sins in our lives,
and therefore, it has no place in a believer’s life
and must be abrogated.
By such a teaching, Joseph Prince is accusing God
for giving us the holy law
to cause us to sin more.
Such a sacrilegious accusation against God
can only come from a wolf in sheepskin.
In ‘Destined To Reign’, Joseph Prince wrote:
“The more you are under the law,
the more sin is strengthened!
… Unfortunately, there are well-meaning people today
who are preaching a completely different message…
So when they see sin, they preach more of the law!
That, my friend, is like adding wood to fire
because the strength of sin is the law. (1 Cor 15:56)
Sin is strengthened when more law is preached!”
Joseph Prince doesn’t know what he is talking about
as great men of God had advocated
the use of the law to preach the gospel of grace:
John Wesley wrote:
“The ordinary method of God is to convict sinners
by the law, and that only.
The gospel is not the means which God hath ordained,
or which our Lord Himself used, for this end.”
Charles Spurgeon wrote:
“They will never accept grace
till they tremble before a just and holy law.
Therefore, the law serves a most necessary purpose,
and it must not be removed from its place.”
“He who preaches the gospel without preaching the law
may hold all the results of it in his hand,
and there will be little for him to hold.”
“I do not believe that any man can preach the gospel
who does not preach the law.”
Martyn Lloyd-Jones said,
“And I assert again
that no man ever truly comes to Christ
except he be brought by this schoolmaster (the law).”
Charles Finney wrote:
“Evermore the law
must prepare the way for the gospel.
To overlook this in instructing souls
is almost certain to result in false hope,
the introduction of a false standard of Christian experience,
and to fill the Church with false converts…”
DL Moody wrote:
“The law is what he needs…
Do not offer the consolation of the gospel
until he sees and knows he is guilty before God.
… I pity the man who preaches only one side of the truth
– always the gospel, and never the law.”
Walter Chantry wrote:
“The absence of God’s holy law from modern preaching
is perhaps as responsible as any other factor
for the evangelistic impotence
of our churches and missions.
… Satan has effectively used a very clever device to silence the law,
which is needed as an instrument to bring perishing men to Christ.
It is imperative that preachers of today
learn how to declare the spiritual law of God;
for, until we learn how to wound consciences,
we shall have no wounds to bind with gospel bandages.”
John MacArthur wrote:
“God’s grace cannot be faithfully preached to unbelievers
until the law is preached and man’s corrupt nature is exposed.
It is impossible for a person to fully realize his need for God’s grace
until he sees how terribly he has failed the standards of God’s law.”
It is so obvious that Joseph Prince
who teaches against the use of the law in preaching the gospel
totally contradicts the views of
not only the Lord Jesus,
John the Baptist, the Apostle Paul,
but all these great men of God
who were prominent preachers and teachers of their day.
Joseph Prince is claiming to have found
a superior way of preaching the gospel
only with the grace and the goodness of God
and without the law.
And he even denigrates and condemns
the use of the law in gospel preaching
– the very thing the scripture advocates
and what the Lord Jesus
and everyone else had strongly exemplified.
That tells a lot about the arrogance of this man Joseph Prince
– he is saying that he is right
– and the Lord Jesus, John the Baptist, the Apostle Paul
and all these great men of history are all wrong.
Joseph Prince has horribly done away with the law
in the preaching of the gospel,
which has the power to humble the proud heart
and convert the soul.
By doing that, he has blatantly disrespected
what the Psalmist has written in the scriptures
– that the law of God is perfect in reviving
or converting the soul (Psa 19:7):

7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
Psa 19:7 NKJV
7 “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”

to make the people laugh and entertain them.
If you listen to what Joseph Prince preaches,
you will realize that he always slots in some kind of ‘comedies’
to make his audience laugh too.
However, please think, do we need to do so?
No, if the church needs to bring in comedians
to preach the words of God,
the church will no longer preach
with the anointing of the Holy Spirit;
but with heretical jokes from the mockers in the last days.
Normally, I don’t bother
if the comedians ‘preach’ any ‘heresies’ or ‘lies’
when they just want to entertain the people
in their entertainment programs or social media.
It’s because there is nothing much we can do
if they want to lie as the world.
However, if they creep into the churches
and use the pulpit to promote themselves
or their entertainments,
they will bring blindness and deception
to change the doctrines of God slowly and gradually.
So, from the way Joseph Prince is preaching,
I don’t consider him as a God’s preacher;
neither do I think that he is a professional comedian.
He is simply a mixture that resembles
both as a ‘lawless’ double-talker
or mocker of God’s words in the church,
but also a ‘professional’ liar
who is skillful and crafty in changing his words
to get the crowds.
So, if the churches have allowed a preacher or a comedian
like Joseph Prince to preach from the Bible
to challenge against all the doctrine of God,
it could be a tragedy not only to the churches;
but also to communities and countries.
Why? It’s because religion would be just a ‘joke’
in our community or country.
If our churches would just love any ‘professional’ liars
who can entertain them and get the crowds,
we would be just a bunch of hypocrites and liars
who want to please only men.
Jesus would still rebuke us in the same way
that He rebuked the Pharisees:

Do you know who was the persecuted one

about the great divide in Christianity
(probably something that many of us realize today).
Yes, we can tell who behave and respect the law
and who rebel and mock at the law,
even in sports or Olympic matches.
Yes, in the last days, there will be a great divide
not just in the religion ‘Christianity’;
but in the churches too.
Have you heard of the ten virgins (or the churches of God)
who are wise and who are foolish?
However, it is not as simple as a divide
between those who love the law
and those who hate the law.
As prophesied in the Bible,
there will be a great divide between:
1. those who love the truth (have the light) and
2. those who do not love the truth (do not have the light).
However, the sad thing is:
many of those who do not love the truth
think that they have the light
simply because they are called, invited to the church,
given grace, or under grace.
They do not know that anybody
including the non-Christians and Christians,
sinners and believers, or even disciples
can still fall under the 2nd category. Why?
The sad thing is: Joseph Prince has brainwashed them
and the church to think that they are under grace
and can never be blinded from the truth.
Many Christians today still think that they love the truth
when they do not really keep the truth or have the truth.
However, it is one thing to love the truth;
and another, to love and KEEP the truth.
After listening to Joseph Prince for so long,
I can only say that he could only keep saying or arguing
that he loves the truth;
however, there is nothing he can show
that he KEEPS the truth.
I think he needs to explain and elaborate on
what the Apostles preached on sanctification
(and what we need to do)
to show that we are like Christ.
When we do and teach like the Apostles
who believed in sanctification,
then we can truly say that we KEEP the truth
or the law of God in us too:
Heb 10:15-17 KJV
Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, (16) This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; (17) And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
I also realize that when we KEEP the truth
or the law of God in us,
we do not fear the law of God anymore. Why?
The Bible says that when the law of God
is really written in us (in both our hearts and minds),
we should not feel the guilt of sins and iniquities anymore,
and we do not need to keep listening to Joseph Prince
to overcome the fear of lawlessness, accusation,
and condemnation too!”

what he meant by “not under law but under grace.”
Then we were told to keep listening to his preaching
until faith arise, therefore many have invested
on Joseph Prince’s CDs, DVDs and all his books.
After reading and studying the Bible
only to realise Joseph Prince’s teachings
were either half true or not true at all.
By opening up Galatians 5,
believers will be able to understand
what it meant to be under/subject to the law.
Apostle Paul taught the believers to walk in the Spirit
(the helper sent by God) to overcome sins.
Don’t understand why Joseph Prince didn’t want to use
the Written Word of God to teach
but instead, his own philosophy.
Was he trying to prove his ways are better than God?

[16] So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
[17] For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.

I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

I can’t remember Joseph Prince ever taught
the 9 fruit of the Spirit
and how God wants us to bear these fruit.
Aren’t we supposed to rely on the Holy Spirit
but why Joseph Prince preach like as if
we all have no strength and power to overcome sin?
Worst taught us “don’t even try” to overcome
or else the more we try, the more we would sin!
But one of the fruit of the Spirit is “Self-Control”.
I pray and hope Joseph Prince and his pastoral team
would come to repentance
for not being truthful in their ministry to God’s people.”
