Archbishop Titus Chung, Bishop Philip Lim and NCCS, had better note that this is another Singapore Pastor, Pastor Leslie Chua, who bravely declared that the Hyper-grace gospel, proclaimed by Joseph Prince, is a false gospel from the pit of hell.

alerted me to a sermon preached by Pastor Leslie Chua,
who is the Senior Pastor of Rock of Ages
on 28 Dec 2025, 2 days ago.
I happened to know Pastor Leslie Chua a long time ago,
when we were in Grace Assembly in the 70s or 80s,
and was also invited by him to preach at his church,
quite some time ago.

First, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“For many years, I have been warning Christians
about the insidious nature of the Hyper-grace gospel.
It is a false gospel that has taken the world by storm
over the last two decades.
The Hyper-grace gospel’s appeal
is stripping the gospel of many hard truths,
arguing that in the new covenant of grace,
God has done away with many of the demands
in the Scripture.
Easy spirituality is the way to go.
God only blesses and never punishes or disciplines
His people.
It claims that the church’s traditional teaching
for the past 2,000 years has been wrong,
that the church has been too legalistic.
And God has raised the leader of this movement
from Singapore
to lead a grace revolution.
Now you know what I call that?
Arrogance.
Arrogance to say that the church has been wrong
for 2,000 years.
It is an arrogant and preposterous claim.
The Hyper-grace gospel
is a false gospel from the pit of hell.”
George Ong’s Response:
“I was glad that there was another Pastor
who dared to preach against Hyper-grace publicly
on the pulpit.
Though names were not mentioned,
Pastor Leslie Chua was clearly referring to Joseph Prince,
when he said:
“And God has raised the leader of this movement
from Singapore
to lead a grace revolution.”
May Archbishop Titus Chung, Bishop Philip Lim and NCCS,
take special note that there is another Singapore Pastor,
Pastor Leslie Chua,
who bravely declared that the Hyper-grace gospel,
proclaimed by Joseph Prince,
is a false gospel from the pit of hell.”
Second, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“Firstly, preach the truth without compromise,
including both the gospel truth and general truth.
The Church today preaches a soft gospel,
focusing exclusively on grace, love and blessings,
while avoiding hard truths such as
obedience, surrender, discipline and suffering.
The reason is simple.
People, including Christians,
don’t like to hear the demands of Christ and the gospel.
Gospel truths are hard to hear.
It is hard to attract seekers
and it also turns away believers.
So the gospel truths are moderated
to suit the prevailing culture’s taste,
making them more palatable and more acceptable.
But you cannot change the unchanging Word of God.”
George Ong’s Response:
“What Pastor Leslie Chua had said about
“The Church today preaches a soft gospel,
focusing exclusively on grace, love and blessings,
while avoiding hard truths such as
obedience, surrender, discipline and suffering,”
is exactly what Joseph Prince preaches.”
Third, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“Thirdly, being a voice in the wilderness
means you will feel frustrated.
The truth or the fact is so apparent to you,
yet others cannot see it.
The evidence is there,
yet it means nothing to these people.
Why?
It is as if they are blinded, or they are under a spell.
Sometimes it feels as if they willfully refuse
to accept the plain truth before them.
They don’t bother to investigate the matter
for themselves.
Or maybe it is easier to live in lies and deception.
Admittedly, the truth can be disconcerting
and inconvenient.
If they acknowledge the truth,
they will have to make changes in their life.
They will have to confront the evil,
or they may even have to go against the flow.
So they choose the status quo.
Nothing changes.
Life goes on as per normal.
So being a voice in the wilderness
can be very frustrating.”
George Ong’s Response:
“Though Pastor Leslie Chua does not have NCCS in mind
when he said the above,
to me, this is so true as to how NCCS have chosen
to treat the Joseph Prince issue.”
Fourth, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“God takes the role of a watchman very seriously.
When God calls someone to be a watchman,
He expects them to perform their tasks
and fulfil their responsibility with conscientiousness
and purpose.
… Ezekiel must take his role as a watchman very seriously.
God will hold him accountable
if he neglected his duty to warn,
whatever the reason.”
George Ong’s Response:
“Though Rev Tan Cheng Huat implored NCCS
to take their role as watchmen seriously,
with regards to Joseph Prince,
there is no indication they have done so.

Fifth, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“Consider what the Lord says to Isaiah
when he was called to the prophetic ministry.
Isaiah chapter 6 verses 9 to 12:
Isaiah 6:9-12 ESV
9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people:
“‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
10 Make the heart of this people dull,
and their ears heavy,
and blind their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
11 Then I said, “How long, O Lord?”
And he said:
“Until cities lie waste
without inhabitant,
and houses without people,
and the land is a desolate waste,
12 and the Lord removes people far away,
and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
Do you know what God is essentially saying
to the prophet Isaiah?
God is basically saying this.
Your ministry is futile.
I call you but understand right from the very beginning
that your ministry is futile.
Nobody will listen to you.
But you must keep prophesying My warnings.
But you must keep prophesying despite that.
What?
I mean, why do you want to raise up a prophet
and speak to the people when people don’t listen?
As a testimony, as a witness,
so that when the day of judgement comes,
nobody can accuse God that, look,
you didn’t send any prophets,
you didn’t send any pastors,
you didn’t send anyone to warn us.
And that was Isaiah’s calling.
And God said, Isaiah,
expect that no one will heed your words.
No one will bother to listen to you.”
George Ong’s Response:
“This is a serious message
to Archbishop Titus Chung, Bishop Philip Lim and NCCS,
that if they still refuse to act against the wolf,
Joseph Prince,
after so many warnings from so many who declared
that Joseph Prince is a heretic,
they would have no excuses, whatsoever,
to offer to God on the Day of Judgment.
On another note, what Pastor Leslie Chua said
about the real deal of Isaiah’s call
is what I fully agree.
This is contained in a sermon I had prepared in 2004,
based on Isaiah 6:1-12
about 20 years ago with 3 outlines:
1. A Vision of God (V 1-4)
2. A Vision of Grace (V 5-7)
3. A Vision of Going (V 8-12)
Let me share excerpts of it,
only part of No 3: A Vision of Going:
“What’s most striking was that Isaiah was willing to go
even though the task that he was sent to accomplish
was not an easy task.
Isaiah was told beforehand by God
that his prophetic message would only make the hearts
of the people even more hardened (Isa 6:9-10).
God told Isaiah, Isaiah,
I know you have caught the vision of Going,
when you said, “Here am I. Send me.” (Isa 6:8)
But I don’t want you to have a romantic idea of the call
I have given you.
That it’s all going to be lovely and fine.
That the people are all going to listen
to your great and inspiring preaching.
They are going to come with their laptops and notebooks
ready to absorb and key in every single insight
and the lessons you throw at them.
Isaiah, I am afraid it’s not going to be the case.
Isaiah, I want to tell you the plain truth.
The plain truth is that your preaching ministry
will be a “failure”.
The people may seem to be listening to your preaching
but they will never see the point
of what you are trying to say.
The reason why they won’t see
what you are trying to tell them
is because their hearts are hardened in the first place.
And Isaiah, your preaching
is not going to make them better.
But it’s going to make them worse.
Your preaching will cause them
to harden their hearts even more.
The more you preach,
the more hardened they will become.
Isaiah was told beforehand
that the people would not listen to him.
Not only would they not listen to him
but they will oppose him.
They will persecute him and even kill him.
It was a calling that would invite opposition, persecution
and even death.
Tradition has it that Isaiah was martyred
by being sawn in two (Heb 11:37).
But Isaiah, even though they would not listen,
I still want you to go and preach to them.
Even though they will harden their hearts,
I still want you to preach to them.
That’s my calling for you.
Isaiah, I want you to know
that success is not to attract a crowd.
Success is not whether people are listening to you.
Success is not defined in terms of positive results.
But success is whether you have carried out
and obeyed my calling for your life,
regardless of whether there are positive results or not.
Success is to obey my call to go on preaching
regardless of whether they are listening to you or not.
And Isaiah, my calling is for you is to preach
and make the hearts of the people even harder.
And Isaiah had the awful experience
of seeing the hearts of his congregation
gets harder and harder and harder
the more he preached to them.
After knowing that’s the true nature of your call,
will you still say as Isaiah did,
“Here am I. Send me” (Isa 6:8)?
No matter how hard Isaiah tried,
the people just wouldn’t listen.
He tried everything he could think of to make them listen.
At one stage, he even had to walk naked through the city
to try and draw their attention to God’s message.
But their hearts just got harder and harder.
Then Isaiah said,
God, how long?
How long have I got to preach to them?
How long would this continue?
How long would I have to bear
with the stubbornness of the people
who would not listen to me (Isa 6:11a)?
Then God answered him (Isa 6:11b-12):
“Until the cities lie ruined
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged,
until the Lord has sent everyone far away
and the land is utterly forsaken.
God didn’t say,
Oh Isaiah, would you quit worrying?
It’s going to take only one week
before they come to their senses.
It’s going to take at most 6 months
before they come under the heavy conviction of sin
and repent.
So just hang in there Isaiah, would you?
No, God didn’t say that.
God said, Isaiah you are going to preach to them
until their country is desolate.
You are going to preach to them
until the nation has been through the worst of a war.
You are going to preach to them
until the nation has been through the worst of a famine.
You are going to preach to them
until the nation has gone through something far worse
than the Sep 11 Incident,
and the streets are deserted
because it is no longer safe to walk the streets.
Isaiah, do you really want to know
how long you have to do that?
I will tell you how long
– 60 yrs.
You are going to preach for not just 1 year
not just 2 years, but for 60 long years
until the homes were desolate,
until the land had turned into a ghost town.
If you are given such a call,
would you still say
“Here am I. Send me” (Isa 6:8)?
Most preachers stop short at verse 8
and leave out verses 9-12 altogether,
and hence, they miss the true significance,
immense difficulties and human impossibilities
of Isaiah’s call.”
Sixth, Pastor Leslie Chua said:
“Likewise, as those who prepare the way for the Lord
and serve as watchmen on the wall,
we will also be the voices in the wilderness.
Few will respond to our message and warning,
yet we must keep preaching.
Yet we must keep talking.
We must keep warning.
… So being a voice in the wilderness
can be very frustrating.
But let’s hang in there.
Let’s fight the good fight and run the race
that God has marked out for us.
May the Lord give us patience, strength and perseverance
and the anointing of wisdom and power
to be His voice in the wilderness.”
George Ong’s Response:
“May those who are called to the same calling
to be a voice in the wilderness and a watchman
as Pastor Leslie Chua did,
find comfort in those words
not to give up,
but to persevere and finish the race
that God has marked out for them.
May we also draw precious lessons from Jeremiah
on how he persevered and finished his race.
Do you know how many years did God call Jeremiah
to prophesy against the people and false prophets?
10 years?
Wrong!
20 years?
Wrong again.
Jeremiah was called to prophesy
against the nation of Israel and the false prophets
for 45 long years.
Jeremiah’s call was no romantic call.
But Jeremiah was called to something
far worse than that.
He was called to prophesy against a whole nation.
He was called to confront the sins of a whole nation.
He was called to utter divine judgement on nations.
He was called to preach sermons
nobody wanted to listen.
It was a thankless job that nobody wanted.
It was a ministry that nobody relished.
It was a ministry that was bound
to alienate both friends and foes.
In fact, his own family even plotted to kill him
at one stage.
What’s worse was that
because of his special prophetic calling,
God forbid him to marry for the sake of the ministry,
And he had no helpmeet or soul mate
to share the pains and burdens of the ministry.
It was a ministry that doomed him to a life of loneliness.
It was a ministry that was destined to fail from the start,
from man’s point of view.
Oh, what an awesome call!
There was no one to encourage him.
There was no one to support him.
He was opposed from every quarter.
He would finish up in prison.
He would even endanger his own life.
There were times he wished he had never been born.
There were times when he cursed the day he was born.
There were times when he said,
“God, why have You done this to me?
If I try not to speak of You anymore,
but there is a hidden fire in my bones.
I’m weary, and I can’t contain it.
I have to speak.
I am compelled by You to speak.
Lord, why did You do this to me?
I can’t endure it anymore.”
Jeremiah went so far as to write,
“Yet, everyone curses me” (Jer 15:10).
True prophets often are subject to ridicule and scorn.
Yet, despite all the enormous difficulties
and insurmountable problems he had to face,
God enabled him to fulfil his calling.
And for 45 long years,
Jeremiah faithfully stuck to the call of God.
He was faithful to the call, not just for 1 year.
He was faithful to the call, not just for 10 years,
but he was faithful to the call for 45 long years.
For 45 long years, he stuck to God’s call
until Judah’s captivity.
And we may ask, what was it
that specifically kept Jeremiah going for 45 long years
despite the opposition and odds?
What was it that kept Jeremiah going
despite the discouragement and the loneliness of the job?
I’ll tell you.
There is one thing that kept him going.
It is the prophetic burden of the call.
It is the deep conviction of the call
that God has called him.
It’s the inner compulsion of the call
that God had laid upon him.
When God has laid a prophetic burden on you,
you have no choice.
You cannot run away from God’s call.
You cannot get out of the situation.
God has called, and you must obey.
And as God’s humble servant, you bow down to that call.
You submit to that call no matter what happens.
You obey the call no matter what it takes.
And any godly preacher or teacher or prophet of God
will tell you this,
if God has called, you have no choice.
Some ministers will leave their ministry tomorrow
if they have a choice, but they can’t.
Why not?
Because they remember a day when God said,
I have called you.
They remember a day
when God laid a prophetic burden in their hearts
and compelled them to accomplish a task
that is only peculiar to them.
If you have been compelled by a call,
then no sacrifice is too great to make.
If you really have a compelling sense of God’s call
on your life,
you will do the purposes of God,
no matter what and no matter how difficult it is,
even if you have to do it all alone.
Yes, we must be prepared
even if we have to do it all alone
in order to fulfil the call of God for our lives
as Jeremiah did.
But I want to tell you the good news.
The good news is that we are more than alone
because we have God on our side.
And if God is on our side,
then no matter how awesome the task is,
no matter how difficult the job is,
no matter how lonely the going is,
no matter how impossible the call is,
we can fulfil the awesome call of God
that he has laid upon our lives
and accomplish the task that He has given us.
So, how many years did Jeremiah prophesy
against the nation of Israel and false prophets?
45 long years!
Yet some people tell me I should stop prophesying
and contending against the false prophet Joseph Prince
after only several years.
No, I’m not saying that I won’t stop until I die.
If God should command me to stop anytime,
even tomorrow or next week, or next month,
I must and I will.
If I didn’t stop,
I would come under His displeasure
and even His anger for disobeying Him.
But until today, He hasn’t asked me to stop.
If God did not stop Jeremiah from obeying His call
to prophesy and he stopped prematurely
because he could not bear
with the criticisms of the people
and opposition of the false prophets,
he would have disobeyed God.
Similarly, if I stop just because there are people,
of all places in the church, who have asked me to,
I, too, would have disobeyed God.
The people who have asked me to stop
would have to make up their minds,
whether they want me to obey God
or disobey Him.
Just remember
– ultimately, every sheep and shepherd
must hear from God Himself (Jn 10:27)
and not from someone
who claims to have a word for you.
One day, all of us would have to stand before God
to give an account, amongst other issues,
for the calling that He commanded us to fulfil
– including those who asked me to stop prematurely
when God, who initiated the call, didn’t ask me to
– these people would also have to stand before God
to answer for the wrong word that they gave.

“What is the calling and mission of Rock of Ages Church?
What is the mission and calling of Rock of Ages Church?
Essentially, three things.
We are called, number one,
to be the preparer of the ways of the Lord for His return.
Number two, we are called to be the watchman on the wall.
And number three,
we are called to be a voice in the wilderness.
These are the three callings for Rock of Ages Church.
We are called to do these three things.
And they are closely related to one another.
How have I led the Church?
How have I, as the senior pastor, led Rock of Ages Church
to prepare the way for Christ’s return?
In two ways.
Firstly, preach the truth without compromise,
including both the gospel truth and general truth.
The Church today preaches a soft gospel,
focusing exclusively on grace, love and blessings,
while avoiding hard truths such as
obedience, surrender, discipline and suffering.
The reason is simple.
People, including Christians,
don’t like to hear the demands of Christ and the gospel.
Gospel truths are hard to hear.

Now in the past, the task of a watchman on the wall
was to be alert and warn the city when danger arose.
In the same way, a spiritual watchman must be alert and warn
God’s people of any impending danger.
In a sense, the task of a spiritual watchman goes hand in hand
with the preparer of the way.
The preparer’s role also entails
watching for dangers and warning the Church.
God takes the role of a watchman very seriously.
When God calls someone to be a watchman,
He expects them to perform their tasks
and fulfil their responsibility with conscientiousness
and purpose.
Now let us read God’s word to Ezekiel
when he called the prophet to be a watchman.
It is not so much a dual calling.
Instead, a prophet’s role usually entails being a watchman.
Prophets warn God’s people of dangers, including sins
as we are going to read in Ezekiel 3.16-21.
Let’s read this passage and you will notice how seriously
God takes the role of a watchman:
Ezekiel 3:16-21 ESV
16 And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 18 If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. 20 Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”
Do you understand what God is saying?
So can you see that
Ezekiel must take his role as a watchman very seriously.
God will hold him accountable if he neglected his duty to warn,
whatever the reason.
It is often hard to give a warning
because it is rarely well received.
Let me say that again.
It is difficult to give a warning because it is rarely well received.
Nobody likes to be told they are wrong.
Nobody likes to be told that God is displeased with them.
That is the problem with many Christians today,
which is why sermons from most pulpits
are usually encouraging,
rather than containing a fair share of warnings and rebukes,
which is absolutely necessary.
You see, nowadays, we have to dance around eggshells,
making the watchman’s job very challenging.
Nevertheless, it is necessary.
And watchman must be bold enough to warn, to say it as it is,
and not to dance around eggshells.
You know what I mean by dancing around eggshells?
Like you need to tiptoe, you need to watch.
You say something, the other fellow doesn’t like,
and then they cancel you.
That is the world culture that we are in.
That is the world that will snowflake Christianity.
It is in the culture outside,
but it has invaded the church culture as well.
The world has a greater influence on the church
than the church on the world.
Unfortunately, it is a sad state of affairs.

Let us read Luke 3 verse 4 again.
Luke 3:4 ESV
As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make His path straight. The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Now John the Baptist operated in the wilderness and that is the reason why he is called a voice in the wilderness.
People have to go to the Judean wilderness
to hear him preach and to be baptized by him.
Applied to us today,
to be a voice in the wilderness means three things.
Firstly, being a voice in the wilderness
means that few will bother to listen to you
and heed your words.
Few will bother to listen to you and heed your words.
You may be carrying an important message
but most people will ignore you.
They will not take you seriously.
You will experience
what most Old Testament prophets experienced.
Ridicule and rejection.
Consider what the Lord says to Isaiah
when he was called to the prophetic ministry.

Did Noah experience exactly the same thing?
For 120 years, Noah preached repentance.
He warned the people that God would send a great flood
if they refused to repent.
Nobody took him seriously.
They probably ridiculed him
because there was no rain at that time.
At that time, the climate and the weather pattern and all
that is very different.
There’s no rain.
But Noah said that God is going to send a lot of rain
and God is going to flood the entire world.
So they probably ridiculed him.
But Noah kept preaching.
Isaiah kept prophesying.
They were the voices in the wilderness.
Likewise, as those who prepare the way for the Lord
and serve as watchmen on the wall,
we will also be the voices in the wilderness.
Few will respond to our message and warning,
yet we must keep preaching.
Yet we must keep talking.
We must keep warning.
Secondly, being a voice in the wilderness means
you will feel lonely.
It means you will feel lonely.
You will feel lonely.
You will feel misunderstood.
You see the truth so clearly,
yet few people share your sentiment.
They not only disbelieve you,
but might also reject and malign you.
Sometimes you might even doubt yourself.
You know in the last five years,
occasionally I will ask the Lord, God,
how can I be right
when so many good and sincere Christians don’t see it?
How can I be only one of the few people that see it,
that discern it, and then these other good Christians,
these other sincere Christians don’t see it?
So there were moments of self-doubt, but it is good.
It keeps us humble and grounded, fully yielded
and dependent on the Lord.
Thirdly, being a voice in the wilderness
means you will feel frustrated.
The truth or the fact is so apparent to you,
yet others cannot see it.
The evidence is there,
yet it means nothing to these people.
Why?
It is as if they are blinded or they are under a spell.
Sometimes it feels as if they willfully refuse
to accept the plain truth before them.
They don’t bother to investigate the matter for themselves.
Or maybe it is easier to live in lies and deception.
Admittedly, the truth can be disconcerting and inconvenient.
If they acknowledge the truth,
they will have to make changes in their life.
They will have to confront the evil,
or they may even have to go against the flow.
So they choose the status quo.
Nothing changes.
Life goes on as per normal.
So being a voice in the wilderness can be very frustrating.
But let’s hang in there.
Let’s fight the good fight and run the race
that God has marked out for us.
May the Lord give us patience, strength and perseverance
and the anointing of wisdom and power
to be His voice in the wilderness.”
