Just look at how Jude Jiow

Jude Jiow must have learned this from his mentor and master,
Joseph Prince,
who is an expert in spinning bad news to become good news,
and lies to become truths.

“By the way, he brought them out
with silver and gold (Psa 105:37-38).
Some people will say that’s wealth.
You agree?
Ya. Silver and gold, everyone has silver and gold.
I think that’s wealth.
The Bible says that night,
the people (Egyptians) gave the children of Israel
gold and silver.
And approximately 2 million millionaires
came out of Egypt that night.”
I’m sure you know what Joseph Prince is trying to drive at.
His argument is just as there are
approximately 2 million millionaires
who came out of Egypt that night,
we, the New Covenant believers like them,
will become millionaires
because we inherit the blessing of Abraham.
Joseph Prince loves to preach about the fact
that when the Israelites came out of Egypt,
they came out as rich people, as millionaires,
– with plenty of silver and gold.
Though what he said is true (Psa 105:37),
it is, as usual, only one side of it.
While it is true that the Israelites came out of Egypt
with silver and gold,
Joseph Prince has hidden the second part of the story from you
– what happened after they came out of Egypt?
His half-truth deception at play again.
Hey Joe, please tell me,
where did God bring them
after they came out of Egypt with silver and gold?
The wilderness!
What?
The wilderness,
which is not even fit for many species of animals to live in,
is certainly not a place for human beings,
not to mention the rich, the millionaires, to live in!
If the Israelites were millionaires,
blessed with so much prosperity and wealth
– the silver and gold,
they didn’t seem to live that way.
Were they living like the king’s kids, with luxury and style?
No.
Did they live like the king’s kids
with servants serving every household?
No.
They found themselves on a few occasions
without food and water in the wilderness.
What?
Hey Joe,
you mean that’s how these so-called Israelites,
who were millionaires
with silver and gold lived?
No food and water, and you called them millionaires?
Exodus 15:22-25 NIV
22 “Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” 25 And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them.”
Why did God make them go through the wilderness
after being led out of Egypt?
To test them (Ex 15:25).
What is the test?
– To go without water for 3 days.
How many of us have not drunk water continuously for 3 days?
I am quite sure that probably none of us have.
Even the poorest beggars do not have to put up
with not having water to drink for 3 days.
Hey Joe, you owe us an explanation
why the so-called 2 million millionaires Israelites
laden with silver and gold,
had a worse bargain than the poorest beggars
that they had no water to drink for 3 days.
And on the third day, when they reached Marah (Ex 15:23),
somebody, perhaps, shouted, “Water.”
And everybody’s spirits were lifted.
And everybody thought that, finally, there was water to drink.
And everybody rushed to the source of water
and took a big gulp of water into their mouths.
But the moment the water went into their mouths,
they vomited every drop of it.
Why? – Because the water was bitter.
What a grave disappointment!
No water for 3 days
– many were about to collapse from thirst
– then finally there was water at Marah
– and the water could not be drunk because it was bitter
– what a disheartening anti-climax!
Hey Joe, you must explain to us,
is that how millionaires
with silver and gold ought to live?
So pathetic!
Of course, despite their grumbling,
God graciously made the water both sweet and safe to drink.
But the point is, God was testing them
whether they would trust Him (Ex 15:25),
but they failed the test.
They grumbled (Ex 15:24).
Why did they grumble?
Simple, because they didn’t trust God.
If they had trusted God, they wouldn’t have grumbled.
This is not the first time they have grumbled.
They grumbled the second time under the same circumstances
when they found themselves,
this time, without food (Ex 16:1-3):
1 They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness,
3 and the people of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
Hey Joe, can you enlighten us
on what the Israelites said in Exodus 16:3?
They complained that they had much more food to eat in Egypt
as compared to no food in the wilderness?
They grumbled that they were so hungry in the wilderness
that they could die from hunger.
In other words, the Israelites were claiming
that they had a better time without being millionaires
and without the silver and gold in Egypt
than being millionaires and with the silver and gold
in the wilderness.
Hey Joe, please enlighten us
why the so-called rich Israelites who are millionaires
with the silver and gold
would complain about that?
Hey Joe, you must explain to us
why the 2 million millionaires Israelites
who were so rich
when they came out of Egypt with silver and gold,
do not even have food to eat (Ex 16:1-3)
and water to drink (Ex 15:22-27)
in the wilderness.
How could millionaires and rich people ever find themselves
in such a dire and pathetic situation?
For the rest of Exodus 16, despite their grumbling,
God graciously provided manna for His people.
But how much did God provide for each of them
– only enough for their needs and the stomach could eat.
Did God provide for them
with the super-abundant supply of manna
that they could store in their warehouses
as wealthy millionaires with silver and gold would do?
No.
God provided for them only enough manna
for their daily needs.
God provided what they needed for one day
so they can trust God for their daily bread.
Hey Joe, you owe us another explanation.
Tell me, is this how millionaires and prosperous people
ought to live?
How can a person who had just enough food for the day
be called a millionaire and a wealthy man with silver and gold?
How can a community that was without food and water
on a few occasions
be called millionaires with silver and gold?
Hey Joe, you need to tell us
why is God not treating them
as millionaires and prosperous people
by giving them just enough manna for each person?
They can’t even have too much manna
as the ‘extras’ they collected were filled with maggots
and began to smell (Ex 16:20 NIV).
This is not befitting of how millionaires and rich people
with silver and gold should live.
So, Joe, did God make the Israelites millionaires and rich,
or did He not?
I am utterly confused by you!
The Israelites did the same thing yet again, the third time
– they grumbled when they found themselves without water:
Exodus 17:1-3 NIV
1 All the congregation of the people of Israel moved on from the wilderness of Sin by stages, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?” 3 But the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
The Israelites should have learned to trust God
after the first time in Exodus 15:22-27,
and the second time in Exodus 16:1-3.
If God can provide water, the first time,
and food the second time,
then certainly He can do it the third time.
But they never learned.
They grumbled again and again.
How do we make sense of all this?
God has a bigger agenda
than making them millionaires
and enriching them with silver and gold
when they came out of Egypt.
God wanted to test them
and teach them about trusting Him.
Such a test of trust is never learned during times of prosperity,
the Prosperity Gospel that Joseph Prince preaches,
but only during times of adversity.
Who doesn’t know how to trust God
when one is a millionaire and is prosperous all the time?
Who doesn’t know how to trust God
when one’s business is booming every year,
and another is rewarded with salary increases twice a year?
But it is during times of adversity;
when there is no food in the fridge;
when there is no coin in my wallet,
that my trust in God is deeply tested.
These three episodes
in Exodus 15:22-27, Exodus 16:1-3 and Exodus 17:1-3,
where the Israelites found themselves without food and water
after they came out of Egypt,
are more in line,
and a foretaste of what Jesus teaches
not about prosperity
but about adversity in the New Testament.
Have you noticed something?
– Joseph Prince, as usual,
only tells you half the story
– the nice bits
– the 2 million millionaires, the silver and gold
when the Israelites came out of Egypt.
But he has hidden the more crucial part of the story from you
– the lack of water and food
that the Israelites found themselves in,
immediately after they came out of Egypt.
Joseph Prince is indeed a half-truth specialist.
By presenting the half-truth as the whole truth,
Joseph Prince grossly distorts what Christianity really is
– that Christianity is all about being millionaires;
it’s all about prosperity and wealth;
it’s all about having silver and gold,
and nothing about adversity,
the testings by God of the Israelites
in Exodus chapters 15-17.
Hey Joe, let’s pause and think.
Tell me, you claim that God made the Israelites prosperous
with silver and gold
when they came out of Egypt.
But it looks like these Israelites didn’t live like the king’s kids.
From Egypt, they were led straight into the wilderness,
and they found themselves without food and water.
Without the basic needs of food and water
is to live in poverty.
Is that how millionaires and rich people
with silver and gold live?
You owe everybody an explanation
for all these contradictions.
Let’s come back to the point
that the Israelites came out of Egypt
as millionaires with silver and gold.
Was God letting them have all the silver and gold
to themselves and making them rich?
I don’t think so.
It was also for a more important reason:
Exodus 25:1-9 NIV
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give. 3 These are the offerings you are to receive from them: gold, silver
and bronze; 4 blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen; goat hair; 5 ram skins dyed red and another type of durable leather; acacia wood; 6 olive oil for the light; spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense; 7 and onyx stones and other gems to be mounted on the ephod and breastpiece. 8 “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you.
One of the key reasons
why the blessings of silver and gold were given to them
was also for the building of God’s Tabernacle.
God commanded Moses
to receive offerings of silver and gold from the people of Israel
in order to construct the Tabernacle in the wilderness (Ex 25:1-9).
Although the offerings of silver and gold were voluntary,
it is not difficult to imagine
that those who were truly devoted to God
would have no issue about giving all,
or most of their silver and gold
towards the building of God’s Tabernacle.
If many of these devoted Israelites
had given all or most of their silver and gold,
would they still be millionaires,
would they still be as rich as Abraham was
that Joseph Prince teaches
that every New Covenant believer is entitled to?
Hence, Joseph Prince’s teaching that New Covenant believers
are entitled to become millionaires
because they inherit the blessing of Abraham
is one big lie.
